Growing Pains & Gatorade

Because I do not trust myself to write a whole lot about today's visit, I will simply state what the doctor said.  "It's growing pains, it's very common at her age"
"Give her gatorade before bed, in case it's leg cramps"
"If she's still in pain in a few weeks, we can do some other 'studies' on her, you know, neurological, etc., but of course, by then you'll be at surgery time."
"Otherwise, she looks good."

Yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it.
An hour and a half drive, one way....a full tank of gas....a lost day of sleep for my husband....and an uncomfortably long ride for Mia, and that's what we walked out with.

Please continue to pray my dear prayer warriors....and thank you for being a miracle for our Mia.
With a Mommy's frustrated and somewhat broken heart,
xoxo

  1. I know it's a pain to feel that you've lost an entire day...but be thankful that it wasn't anything else ;)....and maybe the gatorade will help. I hope so! Love you, Lea

  2. thank you, Lea ! It "not being something else" is what has me worried !! They haven't looked. They haven't done any tests. They haven't even done their own set of xrays. It's the frustration of not being heard, and watching her suffer in the meantime. I hope the gatorade helps too...I'll try anything !! love you too !! xo

  3. I am glad to see you are taking charge of your daughter's treatment. The doctors told us our daughter would grow out of it wit time and there was nothing wrong with her. Two surgeries and four cast later I have been blessed to see my daughter run! What type of doctor told you this? Trent

  4. Trent: the gentleman who saw us yesterday is one of the Sr. surgeons and founding doctors of the practice. ;)

  5. Hi Gigi,
Hopefully, there will be better ways to manage her pain than Gatorade. I am so sad to know that she must endure such terrible pain so often.

My oldest daughter was born with a heart defect and had to have open heart surgery at Mia's age. I liked the blog where you said you are trying to talk to her about the coming surgery. When my Julie was going to have her surgery, I talked to her about it, using picture books written to help children prepare for hospital visits. But of course, there was no way to prepare her for the horrible pain of the recovery process, post surgery. The physical therapists told us that Julie was amazing and didn't even cry, when they knew it must've hurt her. Because of her prep talks that I had with her, though, she was a model little patient. So I think since Mia is probably as bright as my Julie, she DOES indeed understand a lot of what you are sharing with her. You are doing it right!

My Julie is now a wonderful Mommy to two beautiful little girls, 9 and 4 years old, and two adopted siblings who are 20 and 10 years old. (The 20 year old is out of the house, but the 10-year-old is obviously still at home with the family).

So I believe Mia will make a lovely recovery and you will see her walk and run, pain-free, in the future. Plus, I think she will probably be a model patient for the doctors and nurses at the hospital!

I will be praying, along with many others from the Il Volo pages. We all love your video of Mia enjoying the guys' singing! <3

    Many, many blessings to you!

  6. Ps 139 says that God has knit us together in our mothers' wombs. If He did it once, He can do it again. That's what I'm praying for me (my hips are messed up from arthritis), now I'll pray for Mia along with myself. (Wow, Mia is learning Italian.)
